ATI Companies completed pilot testing at two existing injection wells located on the NW and SE side of the underground storage farms. The results of the test allowed the remediation of soil and ground water, contaminated with hydrocarbon and other contaminants, by injection of oxidation-reduction chemicals. A total of 3500 gal of water mixture containing Klozur and iron activator was injected into each of the two wells. The procedure was designed to maximize the efficiency of the remediation and minimize any impact to the surrounding building and infrastructure. During the injection event, water was added to a 500-gallon polyethylene tank and mixed by recirculating the water within the tankusing a batch style approach. A transfer pump was used to transfer the tracer solution from the polyethylene tank through a flow totalizer before distribution to the injection wells. The selection of the chemical Klozur (containing sodium persulfate) was made by the client because of its ability to rapidly oxidize hydrocarbons in groundwater. Precautions were taken for possible hazardous exposure. Our injection services were planned and the work completed in 7 days.
