Project scope and field context
ATI Companies Drilling Team conducted Geotechnical Drilling with a track-mounted ACKER XLS and a CME 45B with Automatic Hammer at a site for the new TRIMCOR Bridgewater Apartments. A Truck Mounted CME 45B and an ACKER XLS were used to drill 25 SPT borings to 40 ft with sampling every 10 feet. The SPT’s revealed some major challenges in the sublayers of this area that is surrounded by water. The initial evaluation of the samples showed a mixture of sand, soil and water which will make it difficult for laboratory testing and analysis. Split Spoon Sampling were used to obtain cohesive soil samples. The challenge at this site is the presence of groundwater at less than 5 ft of depth and the overwhelming presence of sand and mud. At this site the practices of drilling, sampling and testing can introduce substantial bias into some laboratory and field measurements and final geotechnical site characterization. The shallow groundwater and soft mud conditions had a major effect in the process and speed of completing this project and managing the soil samples. Project Services: Install twenty five (25) SPT Borings to 40ft. Plug and patch once completed Used the CME 45B or the ACKER XLS depending on the accessibility of the location of the boring Used split-spoon sampling to obtain the 100 samples required for this investigation
